Jazz Brunch with Maggie Brown

Jazz is her specialty, yet singer, songwriter, musicologist, Maggie Brown is an expressive storyteller. Maggie will share songs and poetry from not only her family’s rich catalog, but also from blues and folk genres including repertoire from some of Terkels’ favorites like Mahalia Jackson.

“Let’s Get Working” – The Concert

Labor activists at the turn of the century used protest songs to spread their message, a tactic that allowed workers to tell their own stories and broadly disseminate the ideals of the movement. The Studs Terkel Festival, the Logan Center for the Arts, the Hideout, and the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum have asked diverse musicians from across the city of Chicago to use the lyrics, music, and stories of five iconic labor songs as inspiration for new music.
