“Medium Cool” Screening and Conversation

Remembered as one of the great political films of its era, Medium Cool, shot in the streets of Chicago during the 1968 Democratic convention, was inspired by Studs Terkel’s book Division Street: America. Post-screening discussion with Andrew Davis, assistant cameraman on the film and director of The Fugitive, with special guests.

With readings by student winners of the Terkel Writing contest, a special tribute to Terkel’s late editor Andre Schiffrin by the New Press’s Ellen Adler and Syndey Lewis, and music by the Old Town School of Folk Music’s Mark Dvorak. Screening: It’s a Living

It’s A Living was the first locally produced portable videotape program broadcast in 1975 on WTTW. Video pioneers worked together with Studs Terkel to make an insightful television program about everyday people that was unlike anything that had been broadcast before.
