Alex Kotlowitz

Alex Kotlowitz is the award-winning author of three books, including the national bestseller There Are No Children Here, which the New York Public Library selected as one of the 150 most important books of the twentieth century. His documentary, The Interrupters, which received a duPont-Columbia Journalism Award and an Emmy, was selected by numerous publications -- including The New Yorker and Entertainment Weekly ­­-- as one of the top ten films of 2011.  Kotlowitz's nonfiction stories, which one reviewer wrote “inform the heart” and which have received many of journalism's highest honors, have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Granta and on Public Radio’s This American Life. He is a writer-in-residence at Northwestern University.
